I haven't made a solid decision yet on what I'm going to do for this project yet. I am thinking about a couple of different topics at this point and trying to do some research to decide which one would be the most interesting... One topic I am interested in is the expanding technology market in the cell phone industry... I worked for Verizon for several years in the past and as such still have many connections in the industry.. one of them told me that within a few years they won't be selling phones anymore, only service and it will be like the iron man thing where you can manipulate the air to make calls, do web searches, and send written communication... So while it seems interesting, I am not sure about the available information on it. Another topic I am looming into is the science of teaching babies to use sign language to communicate. Some studies demonstrate that infants sign in their own language on their own while others say its bad to sign with your baby because it delays speech. I'm not sure if it will be one of these topics I will end up writing about or something in between, found while researching one of these topics. So well see where I end up with it...

Changing the veiw of my blog...
I changed the veiw of my blog. I got some feedback that the bright teal on black was hard to read. I am hoping this is easier to read and i also re-edited (for the 5th or so time) my summary. I am curious that if anyone read it before, if it is better now? I flipped a few lines, did some re-wordig, and added some images. Thanks guys!

Newborns’ cry patterns are shaped by their mother’s native languages.
The Max
Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, the Centre
for Pre-language Development and Developmental Disorders at the University
Clinic Würzburg, and the Laboratory of Cognitive Sciences and Linguistics at
the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris conducted a study that compared the
melodies of newborns.
The study used 30 infants from both French and German mothers. These languages were used because of the distinct tonal differences between the languages—French tone rises while German tone falls.
One theory for why this occurs is that hearing is the first sensory system to develop in a fetus during pregnancy. Angela Friederici, one of the Directors at the Max Planck Institute said in an interveiw, "The mother’s voice, in particular, is sensed early on." Because the hearing of the fetus is restricted by the amniotic fluid, "What gets through are primarily the melodies and intonation of the respective language".
After more than 20 hours of babies crying and analysis, it was concluded; the tone of an infant’s cry is directly related to its mother's native language. The study found the patterns of an infant's cry follows the tonal patterns of inflection and deflection of their mother’s language.

Curiosities and Questions: Post Two
Curiosities and a few questions too:
I have some interest in things like how the Great Pyramids were constructed or why objects feel lighter in water or why horses or dogs used to have thumbs now called chestnuts and dewclaws. I also have an interest in topics like why we have feelings or how feelings affect decision making. Some problems I foresee are finding to much or too little information on some topics, researching and losing interest in a topic for a number of reasons, and I am still not certain on what exactly constitutes science? Does it involve research? And, if so, what constitutes research? (labs vs. discovery?) Can History be science then--for example--archeology i know falls under science, but what about historians or people who try to prove or disprove events in the bible (might be considered a historian)??? Some of the readings we have done really dont have a "scientific-feel" and i think that is probably the style i am going to find the most interest in and also have the easiest time writing about.

Introduction- Post One
Hi all!! I am Chanda Barber although my blog is titled Chanda Lina, which is my full name, don't let it confuse you... as you heard in class I am a lit major and potentially switching to education--most likely. Anyways, I have a vast amount of interests and am curious to find "scientific" writing about some of them. Topics maybe relating to psychology, eveloution and religion, or even just some random things that I dont know much about. I once acted upon the "random factor" and wrote a feature article on Goldfish--a topic i knew nothing about and now do! I like random and maybe sometimes pointless knowledge. So I might be writing about some things that seem odd like (Oh, I dunno, hmm) a paper clip invention process or why we feel like we "love" someone... I like short sort-of tid-bits of these sorts and might just look for more scientific aspects of them... Im not sure if there is anything in particular i dont like, maybe as long as it is new learning to me, something i have alot of knowledge in might not keep me as entertained...but I have never even payed attention to science writing so most topics and ideas should keep my attention pretty well.
